This Is Why People Are Hesitant to Trust Electronic Voting Machines...

polifrog

I feel fortunate to have never used an electronic voting machine that is dependent on the subjective whims of a programmer...

CharlotteObserver.com:

RALEIGH -- The chairman of the N.C. Republican Party alleged Thursday that a programing flaw with touchscreen voting machines used for early voting in 36 counties is causing votes intended for GOP candidates to be counted for Democrats.

Tom Fetzer, the Republican chairman, said that if the State Board of Elections does not enact a list of demands intended to remedy the problem by the end of today, the party's lawyers will be in federal court Friday morning seeking a statewide injunction.

Affected counties include some of the state's largest, such as Mecklenburg and Guilford.

Yep I saw that happen here (in Mecklenburg County) for the election in 2008. We could duplicate it by touching near the line and the machines always defaulted to the D candidate. Probably in the programming if it had a problem determining the selection, it defaulted to the first one instead of refusing to pick one. Probably was a requirement so voters would not feel "stupid" because they could not touch the center of the space.

Before you light off on me, I am a "trained" voter machine technician. The best option is to touch the straight ticket and then go back and reselect any different candidate. Be sure to check the paper printing in the lower left window and be sure to do a whole ballot review.
