Flagship UNC-CH Letting That Freak Flag Fly -- in Davis Library...

Daily Tar Heel:

For some students, study breaks in the library come in all shapes — and sizes.

As students begin to fill up the libraries in preparation for final exams, an active thread on the online classifieds website Craigslist reveals a subculture of illicit sexual activity specific to Davis Library, the University’s largest.

A search for “Davis Library” on the personals section of the Raleigh Craigslist turns up a series of requests for sexual favors, posts that have caught the attention of some library employees.

Besides the posts, library employees cite graphic evidence, including semen-filled condoms draped over chairs and stuck to the walls.

I used Davis for silent study and never was distracted by this sort of stuff. But, hey, that was the early 90's.

Plus Sized Facebook ...fae

... Lastly, I am not on Facebook because I don’t have self-image problems, I’m not insecure, I don’t need “gang” approval of my daily behaviors, I have few friends because I place a high personal value on “friendship,” I enjoy my own company, I enjoy reading books, I’m not intimidated by face-to-face relationships, and I value intelligent conversation. Frankly, I can’t imagine a single benefit that would accrue to me from a Facebook membership.

I'm on facebook and feel similarly, but I do use it to keep in touch with a handful of distant but still close friends...

Infinity Charging System

JoeSherlock :

Perhaps the Infiniti folks have been reading this blog. Back in 2008, I wrote that any plug-in car I purchase had to be equipped "with a charging dock that you drive up to. A dock that will also act as a bump-stop so that I don't hit the garage wall. One with a blue charging light so I can impress my friends.
And a little depression in the center where I can place cheese and electrocute garage rodents.
Dance, Mickey, dance."

The Utterly UnAmerican Mechanations of Beach Management of Charleston South Carolina...

I am a landlord and when I see an American flag flying I feel pride.  Apparently Beach Management of Charleston SC feels disgust:

A bar in Charleston, South Carolina has been forced by the company that owns the property upon which the business sits to remove an American flag and the popular black flag that honors Vietnam POWs and MIAs that the bar manager had raised months ago.

Friend of the blog Jeff Quinton helps supply the contact info for Beach Management should you desire to let them know that forcing people to take down U.S. flags is not a neighborly thing to do.

The CEO of The Beach Company is John C.L. Darby and the Chairman of the Board is Charles S. Way, Jr. Donna Brashier is identified in the article as property manager for Beach Management.

What is wrong with some in our nation that patriotism has become dirty, a thing to be squelched? Simply unAmerican.

It is difficult to tell when looking at numbers that work well during better economic times like the 8.2% unemployment number that ignores those individuals who have given up on work.

Creeping Power - Lost Liberty...

Bill Whittle:

My grandfather worried about creeping communism from his generational perspective, my father from his and I from mine.

It is a shame that none of us can experience the true liberty our nation once offered, that made our nation to become a world power. Without that experience it is difficult to imagine the liberty we have lost as individuals and understand our nation's fall from power and influence on the world stage.

Geithner: Spending Cuts Off the Table Because We (Government) are Simply Too Important...

The Right Scoop:

Geithner: U.S. fiscal situation ‘unsustainable’, but we can’t ‘just cut things’:

The assumption here is that government is more important than the citizen despite the fact that government is financially dependent on the citizen's productivity.

One of the largest falsehoods of our time is the notion that government productivity can drive a nation toward prosperity despite government being a dependent.

Checks and Balances on the Individual Level...

John Stossel - Camera Shy Or A Power High?:

The thing I notice in these videos shot from the eyes if the improperly arrested is that every viewer will feel feel personally violated. There is no win for officers who resist being recorded doing their job.

But by the same token, when an officer treats the presence of the camera and by extension those who view the recoding with decorum we return to Mayberry NC.

What Precident Does Killing Off the 16 Remaing Individuals of a Species Represent?

Instapundit links to  PopSci:

Genetically modified pigs that excrete less waste may be euthanized before they could be slaughtered for human consumption, according to a report out of Canada.

Unless the university finds other funds, it will euthanize the current herd of 16 animals, the Reuters report said, citing Lori Bona Hunt, a spokeswoman for the University of Guelph.

This deliberate extinction of an entire species under the rubric of "euthanizing the herd"  leaves me squirming.

If we create it, are we allowed to break it?

October Baby...

“October Baby” tells the story of Hannah, 19, a home-schooled Baptist who is told by a doctor that her ailments — asthma, seizures, moodiness — are the result of being born prematurely after an abortion attempt.

Hannah sets out to find her birth mother, a quest that ends in tears and, ultimately, a lesson in forgiveness delivered by a Catholic priest.

It is easy to see lost potential when a child, adolescent or adult lose their life at the hand of another.  It is, however, much more difficult to see the lost potential of a human never seen. These individuals who survive abortions allow us to see through the veil of death before birth that hides lost potential from us.

Liberals deny having the the pulling aside of the curtain that reveals this loss with whatever tools they may have:

The reviews have not been kind. In The New York Times, Jeannette Catsoulis wrote that “the film communicates in the language of guilt and fear,” while Roger Ebert called it “amateurish and ungainly.”

Liberals fought to defend slavery,  Jim Crow, and now abortion.  In each case the rights of some are lost to the convenience of others in return for votes that support the Democrat party.  Evil is as evil does.

Why do Our Youth Choose Pepper Spray?

They chose to be pepper sprayed last year and  now they make the same choice:

Student protesters demanding free education pepper-sprayed after trying to disrupt trustees meeting:

Conservatives Stand to Gain from Voter ID Laws - 75% In Favor...

Under the Dome:

A new Elon University Poll finds that nearly three-quarters of North Carolina residents – not voters – would support some sort of photo identification requirement to vote.

The survey found that only 24 percent opposed the law.

This seems to me to be a no-brainer.  Push the law and conservatives benefit; shut out liberal shenanigans at the polls and conservatives benefit.

Free Speech Under Attack by the Left....

An example from the UK:
For making those comments, the young man was swiftly given a two-month prison sentence, upheld on appeal last week.

At his original trial, he had pleaded guilty to ‘racially aggravated public disorder’ by ‘inciting racial hatred’ through posting his comments. In upholding his sentence, the presiding magistrate at the appeal justified it by saying of the man that:

He was intending to say what he said and was intending to produce the effect that he did.

And in Canada where free speech was upheld:
Alberta judge rules that it is legal to disagree with homosexuality:

When I first heard the term "Hate Crime" in my youth, I thought it odd that thought or feeling was being criminalized. If fact, it wasn't being criminalized at the time.

What the terminology did, though, was to open the door to accepting thought, feeling, and ultimately speech as criminal acts. In the years since my first introduction to the term my first impression has been proven correct.

We now defend free speech from liberalism.

So, How About a Boring List of "Unelected Officials" Appointed by Obama...

Obama recently babbled something about "unelected officials" in reference to the Supreme Court.

How about a list of those unelected Czars appointed by Obama:

Is no one bothered by the use of the term Czar? On the other hand its use is very un-orwellian.

Hows That Invisible Constitution Workin' Out For Ya'?

Ken Klukowski:

The best example was Tribe, who was seated one row ahead of me and two seats over. (Tribe dismissed the seriousness of the case in the New York Times last year, concluding “this law’s constitutionality is open and shut” because the lower-court judges who ruled against it were “confused.”)

Last week, Tribe was the one looking confused. While Eric Holder remained poker-faced throughout the argument—doubtless aware that he was being watched—Tribe couldn’t contain himself. He pursed his lips, leaned forward, steepled his fingers, and at times cast down his eyes. Any doubts that I was misreading these signs were dispelled when my friend Austin Nimocks of the Alliance Defense Fund, sitting next to me, leaned over and whispered, “Watching Tribe’s body language is priceless.”

The reason for this divide is illustrated by one of Tribe’s books, The Invisible Constitution. (That’s not the one on my shelf, and I won’t be adding it anytime soon.) A majority of the justices evidently concur with Alito, who joked during a Federalist Society dinner speech I attended years ago that he doesn’t know how to read invisible ink, so he will confine himself to the visible Constitution that we can all read anytime we want to. (An illustration from the book appears above.)

Looks like I'll be looking into the Invisible Constitution.

"That letter needs to be at least three pages single spaced, no less, and it needs to be specific"...

A slap down for our president and bully.

I am beginning to think Drudge is right; the president got some bad news regarding Obamacare and the Supreme Court. In his arrogance he slipped.

Of course he slipped when he chose to focus taking over 1/6 of the US economy rather than leading us out of a depression.

He had his chance, now he is a failed president.

ObamaCare Was Impossible to Defend....

But I think that people are being too hard on Verrilli. He may have coughed and stammered a bit, but his real problem wasn't about performance. His real problem was that he was tasked with defending the indefensible.

Canada: Economic Strenght Through Limited Governence...

Did Zimmerman Even Chase Treyvon?

It doesn't appear to be so according to the whole transcript

Zimmerman: Somethings wrong with him. Yup, he's coming to check me out, he's got something in his hands, I don't know what his deal is.

Dispatcher: Just let me know if he does anything ok

Zimmerman: How long until you get an officer over here?

Dispatcher: Yeah we've got someone on the way, just let me know if this guy does anything else.

Zimmerman: Okay. These assholes they always get away. When you come to the clubhouse you come straight in and make a left. Actually you would go past the clubhouse.

Dispatcher: So it's on the lefthand side from the clubhouse?

Zimmerman: No you go in straight through the entrance and then you make a left...uh you go straight in, don't turn, and make a left. Shit he's running.

Dispatcher: He's running? Which way is he running?

Zimmerman: Down towards the other entrance to the neighborhood.

Dispatcher: Which entrance is that that he's heading towards?

Zimmerman: The back entrance...fucking [unintelligible]

Dispatcher: Are you following him?

Zimmerman: Yeah

Dispatcher: Ok, we don't need you to do that.

Zimmerman: Ok

Dispatcher: Alright sir what is your name?

Zimmerman: George...He ran.

Dispatcher: Alright George what's your last name?

Zimmerman: Zimmerman
Dispatcher: And George what's the phone number you're calling from?

Treyvon Martin Crime Scene...

Living in the Past...

Juan Williams:

Nobody says a word that over half of the murders in the United States are of black people and 90% of them are committed by other black people.

What is this carnage in the black community, in Chicago, Philadelphia, Detroit, every day of the week? And nobody has a march for them…

This is the civil rights challenge of this generation yet people want to replay what happened 50 years ago, Chris.

Could he have learned something from his miserable attempt at claiming the term "janitor" was racist when uttered from the lips of Newt? I don't know, but failed narratives can be damaging and at least some can recognize a failed narrative when they see one.

Pontiac to Return?

I personally like the "Honda CRX" on steroids and the Ute.

CL: Wait a minute... I am both shocked and amazed. GM is bringing back Pontiac!?!?

Mr. X: GM is growing again. They had to eliminate those divisions to survive. But now the loans are being paid off, GM is making money again, there's room to grow, and the void at GM is the lack of an exciting, affordable brand.

CL: Ummm... what cars will become Pontiacs... rebadged Chevrolets?

Mr. X: No. But obviously they can't tool up from scratch to launch an entire division, so Holden will supply most of [...]
