Since his most recent foray into Republican disunity in regard to ObamaCare I thought I'd search for any new news concerning Richard Burr.
I found that on Sept, 25 2013 while Ted Cruz was preparing his historic filibuster against ObamaCare Burr was busily leading the charge against the scourge of American apathy toward infant mortality (S.Res.258):
Sens. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), Ben Cardin (D-Md.) and Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) recently led a bipartisan effort in the senate to increase awareness about infant mortality and access to prenatal care in the U.S.
Resolution S.Res.258, passed unanimously by the Senate, commemorated September as National Infant Mortality Awareness Month. In addition, the senators called on the Department of Health and Human Services, as well as other entities, to spread awareness of the contributing factors of infant mortality and critical prevention efforts meant to reduce the number of infant deaths.Does Burr truly think so little of Americans that he believes that we need to be enlightened to the fact that the death of a child is a bad thing?
It's either that or Burr is simply claiming the appearance of leadership on a position that is already held by all Americans. How difficult.
In what other similar areas may Burr exert himself?
Perhaps he can practice his mastery of leadership by claiming he has lead people to believe:
- Couches are sometimes comfortable (note the equivocation)
- Pillows can be soft
- The Earth is spherical
- Fish are wet
- Farmers suffer inclement weather
Seriously? Burr leads on this but rejects the defunding of ObamaCare?
Would Burr's constituents not be better served if Burr exerted his energy on items with which only Burr and his voters agree?
Perhaps in the 2016 primaries we should ask ourselves if we want a leader who leads with their voter's interests in mind or one that. like Burr, simply looks for issues on which everyone already agrees and claim to have led us there.
