Green Shoots? No Roots...

Government spending may look green, but it lacks the roots of private economic activity.

Long a source of concern amid the hyperbole of tickerforum, the lack of roots in the green shoots finds its way to the mainstream data rags...

The economic reports for May are rolling in, and so far they're pretty ugly. In the first four months of 2010, it seemed pretty clear that a recovery was upon us, though it was shaping up to be a slow one. Last month, however, the economy seemed to take a step back. Was it a blip, or a sign of a double-dip to come?

...here's what we do know:
  • Employment numbers are dependent on government.
  • Home sales down
  • Retail sales down
  • Consumer confidence is unsure
