Lex Alexander and His Penchant For Denying the Scientific Process...

polifrog

Lex Alexander
As regular readers know, I believe that the Earth’s climate is changing in undesirable ways, that this change is being driven primarily by increased levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and that human activity (both carbon emissions and logging the rain forests that turn the greatest amount of carbon dioxide into oxygen) is to blame.
Not coincidentally, this is essentially the view of the vast majority of climate scientists, whose work, comprising more than 30,000 studies dating back decades, many of those studies confirming earlier findings, would seem to put this question beyond the range of rational dispute — the key word, of course, being “rational.”
when rationality fails, I fall back on Occam’s (or, as my research textbook spells it, Ockham’s) razor, which sounds painful. But Occam’s razor is actually a principle of logic: In plain English, it means that all other things being equal, the simplest explanation for a problem is most likely correct.

And so it is in the spirit of Occam’s razor that I present the following graphic, created by Brooke Jarvis.

But when challenged with the notion that perhaps government spending on climate research has been omitted  Lex Alexander, living up to settled science of a "vast majority of climate scientists", proudly  claims he is finished discussing facts.  Never mind he continues to post on those topics he is finished discussing.

Climate Models Called for an Increase in Water Vapor -- Didn't Happen -- Lex Alexander, 'Meh'....

polifrog

Among the many positive feedbacks assumed by climate "scientists" in their climate models is an increase in water vapor.  It is postulated that a small increase in CO2 will result in an increase in water vapor which itself is a "greenhouse gas". Models were created predicting an increase in not just water vapor but an increase in temperature as a result of increases in CO2.  What happens when those models are compared to actual real world measurements?

The "dots" represent CO2 which has gone up.
The blue line represents relative humidity ... falling.

This represents a failure of the climate science model but triumph of science in action.  Real science is up for  falsification; false science is settled.

That "journalists" like Lex Alexander continue to side with falsified models and attempt to halt debate with claims that Global Warming is settled science is evidence that they are not reality based.

So, when all else fails, "journalists" like Lex Alexander ignore observed reality and play politics with falsified climate assumptions and produce:

NASA Observations Show Lex the Troll Alexander's Reality Built Upon Global Warming Models Wrong...

polifrog

Scientists use observation to challenge the models upon which expected outcomes are derived.  When in conflict it is the model that is wrong, not reality.

Science Daily:
Data from NASA's Terra satellite suggests that when the climate warms, Earth's atmosphere is apparently more efficient at releasing energy to space than models used to forecast climate change may indicate, according to a new study.
...

"The satellite observations suggest there is much more energy lost to space during and after warming than the climate models show," Spencer said. "There is a huge discrepancy between the data and the forecasts that is especially big over the oceans."

Not only does the atmosphere release more energy than previously thought, it starts releasing it earlier in a warming cycle. The models forecast that the climate should continue to absorb solar energy until a warming event peaks.

However "journalists" like Lex Alexander ignore observed reality and play politics with falsified climate assumptions and produce:

Lex the Troll Alexander Play Politics With Science -- Chart 7...

polifrog

If the hypothesis is that CO2 with the help of  positive feed backs forces changes in global temperature, a scientist would ask whether the two  correlate over time and compare the hypothesis to observation.  Such an endeavor shows there is no correlation between CO2 and global temperature.

Lex the Troll Alexander Plays Politics With Climate Models And Forgets to Look Outside or at Check With the Scientists Who do......

polifrog

Scientists measure the observed against the expected. In the case below what was expected, namely global warming, was not born out in the observed measurements. Thus scientists must conclude the assumptions that lead to the expectation of global warming are incorrect.

Daily Mail:

The supposed ‘consensus’ on man-made global warming is facing an inconvenient challenge after the release of new temperature data showing the planet has not warmed for the past 15 years.

...

Based on readings from more than 30,000 measuring stations, the data was issued last week without fanfare by the Met Office and the University of East Anglia Climatic Research Unit. It confirms that the rising trend in world temperatures ended in 1997.

Falsified Assumptions are Lex the Troll Alexander's Stock in Trade...

polifrog

Scientists use prediction to validate assumptions by measuring  those assumptions, as represented by prediction,  against reality:

Guardian UK:

The world's greatest snow-capped peaks, which run in a chain from the Himalayas to Tian Shan on the border of China and Kyrgyzstan, have lost no ice over the last decade, new research shows.
The discovery has stunned scientists, who had believed that around 50bn tonnes of meltwater were being shed each year and not being replaced by new snowfall.

In Lex Alexander's World Models are Reality While Observation is Ignored - Chart 5...

polifrog

This fifth chart (all those sloping down) in this series represents the expected decrease in out going radiation under the assumptions of the climate models.  A decrease in out going radiation is what we would expect to see if the globe were warming. Scientists use those models to show how out going radiation is not decreasing as the models suggest when they compare their models to observed reality as measured on the first graph, the only one that slopes up:

Lex Alexander Plays Politics With Climate Models While Scientists Play Science With Observation...

polifrog

This fourth chart (below right) in this series represents the expected rise in air temperature in the troposphere  if the assumed feedback loops amplify the effect of CO2 warming.    Scientists use those models to show how the questioned positive feed-backs are non existent when they compare their models to observed reality as measured on the left:
